Morethetho Arts Project
Morethetho Arts Project formerly known as Atteridgeville Theatre Organisation was established in 1995. Our focus has been in social problems affecting the youth of our township such as AIDS/HIV, alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancy, youth who commit suicide, etc. These realities fuelled us to establish a project run by the youth, because we have an unbiased clear picture of the social problems that manifest the youth than most people can claim to. We are after all, the youth and with hardly qualms whatsoever knows what it is to be the youth. Therefore, as theatre practitioners, we believe theatre has a vital role to play in addressing and combating these problems. Thus we are best suited to help the community out of the social quagmire many find themselves in, however it must be emphasised that we do not review ourselves as the ultimate social panacea for the youth, thus marginalised ourselves from society that is generous to lend a helping hand.
Morethetho boasts with the successful execution of different community outreach projects of different magnitudes in the past, since its inception in 1995.
Morethetho and The Learning Theatre have been working together for some time now. Their first joint effort was a play about personal safety during the holiday season that was performed at platinum mines in Rustenburg.
More recently, in a joint venture between The Learning Theatre and Morethetho, a national communication project was completed exceptionally successfully for The Office of the Auditor-General.
